The inaugural NSW Pony Challenge is dedicated to the memory of Poppy Boon-Wyles.
Poppy was a founding member of the ASPR and the main instigator of this event. She will be sadly missed by all of her friends on the committee and the members of the ASPR

On arriving at SIEC late on Thursday afternoon I was delighted to see wonderful long green grass (and even some mud!), the likes of which have not been seen in Northern Victoria, where I live, for quite a few years.
The 2009 NSW Pony Challenge was the first event that the ASPR have hosted in NSW and our Committee was very appreciative of the help and assistance provided by the staff at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. They were extremely easy to deal with and constantly checked up to see if there was anything we needed. Many thank to Rob and Antoinette in the office and the security staff and congratulations on a superb venue.
On Friday we began the task of setting up the showjumping course with our course builder David Lawrence. Our official announcer, Brian Brennan - a voice very well known in Victoria - made the long trip up to Sydney to help us out (including building the showjumping course!). Having called many World Cup qualifiers and numerous major showjumping events, Brian and David got on like a house on fire, chatting about their many common acquaintances from
And isn't this what it is all about?!
Win or lose, smiling faces and riders congratulating each
other on a great ride!

the showjumping fraternity. Our President Vincent Wyles and committee member Kate Sherwood and daughter Ellen worked tirelessly and we had the course set up in next to no time. I shall make no comment on Vin's tractor driving abilities!
David is a terrific course builder and personality and we sincerely appreciate all of the assistance he gave to us prior to the event to ensure a successful day. It was very rewarding to hear riders commenting on the great courses that David built and that all day, they never jumped the same track twice.
Many thanks to our showjumping judges, Joyce and Bob Brooks and to Judy Fasher for organising much of the showjumping for us. It was an absolute pleasure to work with all of them.
To our committee member Justin Worthy, sincere thanks for organising all of the dressage judges and pencillors and also to his mum Sheri Worthy and grandmother Bev Robinson for the judges lunches on Sunday - looked very appetising as I wandered past! Many, many thanks to Lisa Urquart and Justin for organising lunch on Saturday. Justin was an invaluable help with the Sunday dressage having organised many dressage days himself, he just stepped in and had problems sorted and riders and judges organised before I had time to blink!
Our St John's representative, Bob Smart got more than he bargained for and was 'co-erced' into helping out with the prize presentations on Saturday - many thanks to Bob for his help.
Many, many thanks to Dorothy Horne (from Victoria) who spent hours labelling prizes and sorting ribbons for me on Friday, more often than not by herself when I had to run off and do some other job. Dorothy is mum to Kate and grandmother to Ellen and always makes herself available for pencilling at our events and for anything else that needs to be done. I very much appreciated her help as it saved me lots of time!
We very much appreciated the connections of Allengreen Showcase, Flowervale Boginov and Glo-Brook Signature for presenting their boys to perfection in the stallion parade on Saturday evening. And again many thanks to Harriet Gruen on Allengreen Showcase for demonstrating the 4 yo Material Pony test and Danni Flood on Flowervale Boginov for riding the 5 yo Young Pony test. We are looking forward to featuring classes for the 4 & 5 yo up and coming ponies at our 2010 event.
To our dressage judges - Kristen Closson, Sharon Fairbanks, Beth Turner, Cheryl Beckett, Sue Birch, Pip Tonkin, Sue Scraysbrook, Jan Geary and Anna O'Keppel, many thanks for your contribution to our event. To all of our pencillors - Anita Dore, Trish Brennan-Wood, Sharon Fairbanks (who judged Saturday and came back to pencil Sunday!), Elizabeth McDonald, Lyn Bradley and Deb Hennessy many thanks. Our gear checkers, Coran Urquart, Trish and Angie Hagarty, Ben Clear and Gayle Falconer and our runners Jordan and Hayden Urquart, Amy and Luke McDonald, Todd Dipple, the Nanan family and Hayley Wynn-Jones, we very much appreciate you giving your time to help with our event.
And last but by no means least, to our sponsors we thank you very much for supporting the very first NSW Pony Challenge and for having faith in our fledgling organisation.
It was an absolute pleasure to run this event with so many helpful people and wonderful personalities - I'm looking forward to working with all of them again next year!
